From villas in Dubai and Abu Dhabi to apartments in Amman and homes in South Florida, heat shapes how families care for their homes. Here are habits that work across hot climates.
Keep the air conditioning healthy
- Clean or replace filters every month in summer.
- Have split units and ducts cleaned at least once a year to keep the air fresh and the bills down.
- Book service before summer, when technicians are busiest.
Clean the water tanks
Many homes in Jordan and the UAE store water in rooftop or underground tanks. Heat helps bacteria and algae grow, so have tanks cleaned and disinfected at least once or twice a year.
Protect marble and stone floors
Marble is beautiful and stays cool, but it scratches and stains. Use mats at the entrance, wipe up spills quickly, and have floors polished and sealed when they lose their shine.
Fight dust and sand
- Check window and door seals, which wear out in strong sun.
- Clean screens, balconies and outdoor seating often during dusty seasons.
- Deep clean carpets, majlis seating and curtains a few times a year.
Shade and sun protection
Shade sails, pergolas and window films keep rooms cooler and protect furniture from fading. Exterior paint and sealers made for strong sun last longer.
