How Much Does a Paver Driveway Cost in Florida?

A paver driveway adds curb appeal and value, and it handles Florida rain better than many surfaces because water can drain through the joints. But prices vary a lot from one home to the next. Here is what goes into the number.
How pavers are priced
Installers usually price paver driveways per square foot, installed. The total covers the pavers, the base materials, labor, and extras like borders and sealing. A two car driveway is often 400 to 800 square feet, so even a small difference per square foot adds up.
What drives the cost
- Size and shape. Curves, circles and many cuts take more labor than a simple rectangle.
- Paver type. Standard concrete pavers cost less than travertine, clay brick or premium textured lines.
- Pattern. Herringbone (best for driveways because it resists shifting) and patterns with many cuts add labor.
- Removing the old driveway. Breaking out and hauling away concrete or asphalt is a separate cost.
- Base preparation. A compacted base is what keeps pavers from sinking. Soft, sandy or poorly drained soil may need more base.
- Borders and edging. Soldier course borders and concrete edge restraints hold everything in place.
- Drainage. Adding a drain or regrading for runoff adds cost but prevents problems.
- Permits and HOA approval. Many Florida cities require a permit for driveway work, and many HOAs require approval of colors and patterns.
- Sealing. Often quoted as an add-on.
Pavers vs other options
Pavers usually cost more upfront than plain poured concrete, but individual pavers can be lifted and replaced, which makes repairs cheap and nearly invisible. See our pavers vs concrete comparison.
How to get a fair price
- Get at least three bids for the same size, paver line and pattern so you compare like with like.
- Ask what the base is: material and depth. A cheap bid often means a thin base.
- Confirm what is included: removal, permit, borders, sealing, cleanup.
- Check license and insurance. See our guide on checking a contractor's license in Florida.
- Ask about the warranty on labor and settling.
